Have you felt like these past months are like a never-ending, cold, dark night – and you wonder if morning will ever come? You’re not alone. The heaviness and pain of this pandemic have been shared by us all.
Recently we surveyed over 8000 men and found that many are struggling in their family, work, emotional, and spiritual lives.
This must have been how the disciples felt as they watched their hopes and dreams dashed on Golgotha’s hill. They had journeyed with Jesus. They had given up their livelihoods to follow him. They had placed their faith and future in him. But then there was a nighttime arrest, a prejudiced trial, an unjust sentence, an inhumane beating, and the horror of the crucifixion.
It must have felt like a long, dark night. Luke records: And when all the crowd that came to see the crucifixion saw what had happened, they went home in deep sorrow. (Luke 23:48, NLT)
The next hours must have seemed like an eternity. Jesus was gone. Death had come. Hope seemed lost.
But when morning broke, the world was different. An angelic Sunday morning announcement at an empty tomb still reverberates through human history: “He is not here! He has risen!”
The apostle Paul reminds us: If Christ weren’t raised, then all you’re doing is wandering about in the dark, as lost as ever…But the truth is that Christ has been raised up, the first in a long legacy of those who are going to leave the cemeteries. (1 Corinthians 15:16-20, MSG)
The resurrection transformed the long, dark night into the dawn of new life, new hope, and a NEW DAY!
Theologian N.T. Wright states: “The message of Easter is that God’s new world has been unveiled in Jesus Christ and that you’re now invited to belong to it.”
This is the invitation we have been called to share, turning hurting men into hope-filled men.
While the pandemic has affected our programming and events, we have leaned into our digital efforts to keep sharing this good news.
Christ has invited us to step out of the dark of night so that we can invite others to do the same. This is the hope of the resurrection. The long, dark night will end. A NEW DAY is here.
