Enough Grace to Go Around

In Daily Devotional by Paul Jolicoeur

Theme of the Week: Grace

Bible Verse: “The Scripture says, ‘Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.’ For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. For ‘everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’” Romans 10:11-13

Scripture Reading: Ephesians 2:1-10

God’s gift of eternal life is the grace He extends to us all. It is an unmerited gift we cannot earn and certainly don’t deserve. Regardless, before the beginning of time, He had a plan. While we were still sinners, He made a way.

That is perhaps the most amazing thing about the grace of God. It was planned when we were God’s enemies. Our sin puts us in direct opposition to God. It makes us His enemies. Imagine that! Giving your enemy something that could make them stop being your enemy.

And Christ’s invitation is open to all that will receive it. It is a free gift that can’t be earned. Like all gifts, they must be received. You must take the gift as your own.

If we could earn it, we wouldn’t need Jesus.
If we could earn it, Jesus died for no reason.
If we could earn it, we would be the hero of the story.

But we can’t; we are hopelessly lost. That is why Jesus came. To show grace, to give us what we could not give ourselves so our relationship with our Creator could be restored.

Prayer: Today, Jesus, I receive your gift of eternal life. Forgive me for my sins and guide me towards the things of you. I desire to follow you today.

Reflection: Today’s prayer (or a version like it) can be said each day as we desire to follow Christ. If this was the first time you prayed something like this, welcome to your new life in Christ. Speaking with a friend or your pastor would be a good idea. We are also here for you too. Contact us today at info@PromiseKeepers.ca.
