Theme of the Week: A Life of Purpose
Bible Verse: “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10 NIV
Scripture Reading: Ephesians 2:1-10
What does living a life full of purpose mean? That’s what I hope to help you with as we look at our daily devotionals this week.
If you know me, you know I don’t like puzzles. However, if I ever find myself at the puzzle table, the picture on the outside of the box that shows what the puzzle should look like is quite an advantage in piecing it together. When it comes to our purpose, I’m not sure if we ever get that type of insight, but I do think God can give us clarity, one or two pieces at a time.
Perhaps, over decades, we find that the picture becomes clearer to us as we mature. It’s not that God is hiding His purpose from us or that He is changing it on the fly. Rather, I think He is simply revealing pieces to us as we journey with Him.
So, we must trust and be committed to the process, purpose, and plan God has for us. “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10
Maybe if God revealed the whole picture of our life’s purpose, it’s likely that we would withdraw, run and hide, or – maybe even worse – take shortcuts to get there and miss out on the important character development and learning that would be needed to sustain us and keep us there.
Prayer: Dear God, I know you have a plan and a purpose for me. I believe, by faith, that it’s a great purpose and a great plan, so I ask for your guidance and grace as I do my best to follow how you are leading me. Today, my heart is open to your voice and to your Word. Reveal more of who you are to me and show me how you want me to live.
Reflection: What kind of intentional effort have I put in to discover God’s purpose for me? What are some things I am already sure of as it relates to God’s purpose for me?
