Bible Verse: “All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had.” Acts 4:32 (NIV)
Scripture Reading: John 13:34-35
This week, we will look at why being engaged in your local church community is an important and necessary step for each believer.
Not because of religion, works, or manipulation, but rather because it is through the local church that Christ transforms individual lives, reaches communities, and disciples new believers.
As Christians, we are not immune to the problems that ail our world. We live in a high-paced, dopamine-drenched society that cares little for the things of God.
There are many reasons why the local church should come together corporately for worship, teaching, discipleship, and outreach. However, this week, let’s get more personal about the things that ail us individually—things like fear, anxiety, loneliness, our desire for meaning, and the sin that so easily entangles us (Hebrews 12:1).
When we are engaged in our local church community, not only do we find the support and community we need, but we will also create the community that other believers need. We will ultimately, like Jesus said, “Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another” (John 13:34-35).
We live in a world that makes it easy to be isolated. That’s the easier path. As men, we must intentionally pursue engagement in our church community.
Prayer: Thank You, Lord, for the local church, instituted by You for the discipleship of believers and expression of love to the unbeliever. Amen.
Reflection: Are you an engaged member of a local church? If so, what benefit has it brought you? If not, why not?
