Leaving a Legacy

Theme of the Week: Living Your Legacy

Bible Verse: “You’ve had a good long life but there is still a lot of land to be taken” Joshua 13:1 MSG

This week our devotional theme is “living and leaving a legacy”.

The Meriam-Webster dictionary defines “legacy” in two ways. Firstly, it is something (such as property or money) that is received from someone who has died. In our family, a beautiful wooden tea wagon was given to us by my mother after she passed away. It is now in its 3rd generation of use as it was passed on to her by her mother-in-law when she died over 50 years ago.

“Legacy” is also defined as something that happened in the past or that comes from someone in the past. As an example, “He left his children a “legacy” of love and respect”. I’m sure you, like me, really want that kind of legacy to be passed on to your children and grand children!

It is important to realize that each of us has been given something of value to pass on to someone of value. For a godly man, it is even more important to remember that each of us has been given something of value by the Lord to give to someone He highly values.

This week Dr. Doug Wiess will be walking with us on the road that leads to living and leaving a godly legacy. As you begin that pathway tomorrow let me leave you with an important question today. In Joshua 13:1 we read, “You’ve had a good long life BUT there is still a lot of land to be taken”. My question is, “What will you do with what you have been given?” Or put another way, “ what will you do with the time, talent, treasure, truth and relationships that the Lord has entrusted to you? “

Prayer: Lord, life is shorter than we think. Help us to live wisely and steward well all that you have given. We ask this in the name of your son Jesus who gave himself for us. Amen.
