Theme of the Week: Freedom From Fear and Anxiety
Bible Verse: In his kindness God called you to share in his eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation. 1 Peter 5:10 NLT
Scripture Reading: Psalm 32:1-11, Luke 9:46-48; John 14:15-21
Anxiety and fear are powerful emotions that can totally rule — and potentially ruin — our lives. You may have tried to rid yourself of these feelings, but nothing seems to help. What would you say to letting go of these feelings? Does it seem impossible?
Often, it is difficult to let go of things because we aren’t fully convinced that God is able to deal with the strong feelings that control our lives. The creator of heaven and earth has the power to do anything, yet we doubt. God’s ability to take on your troubles is greater than you know — because if you did know, you would have given God all your worries and fears a long time ago.
Realizing that God has more power than you do will allow you to begin to surrender your cares to him. Today, begin to release your worries to God, who cares for you and will ease the weight of your worry.
“Worry is like racing the engine of an automobile without letting in the clutch.” – Corrie ten Boom
Prayer: God, you hold the whole universe in your hands. My problems seem insignificant by comparison, yet they can consume my mind and my emotions. Help me to learn what it means to release them to your capable hands.
Reflection: What is one thing you have been thinking about too much that you can turn over to God?
