Theme of the Week: Living Out the Victory
Bible Verse: “So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 ESV
Scripture Reading: 2 Corinthians 4:16-18; Hebrews 12:1-2
This passage in 2 Corinthians 4:16-18, is a summary statement for what Paul discusses earlier on in chapter four. It speaks of being “afflicted… perplexed… persecuted… struck down.” Yet they these things are countered with “not crushed… not driven to despair… not forsaken… not destroyed” (2 Corinthians 4:8-9).
Life is filled with challenges. You may be perplexed about your kids, your job, or your marriage. You may be mistreated in the workplace or misunderstood by your peers. You may get knocked down by people’s words or their actions.
How can we say we are living victoriously when our lives look the like opposite?
They key to victory is looking at life with eternity in view and understanding that we are in this for the long haul.
Hebrews 12:1-2 tells us to run the race with patience and fix our eyes on Jesus.
Frame your life situations in the context of eternal values. Look at your marriage from an eternal perspective. Look at your job from an eternal perspective. Look at your kids from an eternal perspective. This will help you respond and act according to what matters for eternity, not for the moment.
Victory is seeing past the moment. It’s not the battle. It’s the war. And it’s already been won!
