Separate Yourself

In Daily Devotional by Doug Weiss

Theme of the Week: Living Your Legacy

Bible Verse: “I want you to swear by the LORD, the God of heaven and the God of earth, that you will not get a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I am living.” Genesis 24:3

Scripture Reading: Ezekiel 14:1-11

Abraham got through the storm of being tested to be willing to sacrifice Isaac. Life continues, Isaac is now a man. Like most men, we do better if we are married. Abraham knew Isaac needed a wife. Remember Abraham is very rich, he could have chosen the prettiest, richest daughter from the heathens around him.

He would have nothing to do with the worldly ways around him. He knew he was different and his legacy was to be different. He ordered his servant to go to his father’s house for the bride of his legacy.

We all have to make decisions on how worldly we are going to be. Most of us don’t take the time to think how these decisions impact our generations. Abraham did, and demanded that his son had a fighting chance at being a God follower.

As men, we have to decide how much of the world’s ideas we are going to watch and do. Remember Lot was vexed by hearing and seeing unrighteousness (2 Peter 2:7).

Ask yourself is there is anything in my life I wouldn’t want in my children’s life? Do you need to be entertained by the world (television) 10-30 hours a week? Do you look at pornography? Are you an angry man? Do you prioritize stuff over relationships?

God not only knows our deeds he knows what we think as well. If you have an idol in your heart or in your deeds, it’s time to separate yourself from that. This separation is for your good and for the good of your legacy.

Ask God and friend or wife if they see something in your life that is not God’s best for you or your legacy.
