Theme of the Week: Listening With Jesus
Bible Verse: “For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” Luke 6:38
Scripture Reading: Luke 6:27-42
In 2009, a group of criminals used counterfeit debit cards to steal nine million dollars from 130 ATMs in forty-nine cities around the world, all within a time period of just thirty minutes! That’s big-time fraud. Sometimes in life, things that were meant for our own good can be taken advantage of, or misused in epic proportions. These machines were developed for society’s convenience. They are a privilege. Street corners, gas stations, bank entrances, cruise ships – you name the area, ATMs are everywhere. After a while, some things we have created for convenience are not appreciated.
On too many occasions in life, we look to God as an ATM machine. We’re in a hurry, we leave our car running, grab our access card, punch a few numbers, and away we go. We leave once we receive. Isn’t that the way we are with God? We come to Him for a need, a want, or a help. We want instant answers or solutions without the wait. Over and over we use that technique, making withdrawal after withdrawal. We want it quick and easy.
What are you investing in? Are you a taker or a giver? Do you understand that we need to recognize God for who He is, not just what He does for us? Deposits could be make in many ways. Appreciate God by showing your thankfulness and gratitude. Be generous, give a portion of your earnings in tithe, and be an example at your work or in your community. Don’t just be a taker; be a giver.
