Wandering In The Wilderness

In Daily Devotional, Life Issues, Mental Health by Tim Bergmann

Theme of the Week: Wandering In The Wilderness

Bible Verse: Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. Psalm 23:4

Scripture Reading: Psalm 23:3-4, Hebrews 4:15

In 2017, I went on a tour to Israel. We spent the first three days in the Judean wilderness.

It gave a me a whole new perspective on the passages in the Bible that reference being lost in the wilderness. Believe me when I say that there is nothing special about the wilderness.
Why would this land be so contested? Why would anyone want this?

Moses, David, John the Baptist. It was a significant step in spiritual growth and leadership to have spent time in the wilderness. Could the same be said of our time spent in difficult seasons?

If you don’t know the God of the wilderness, the god you meet in the comfort may not be the true God.

If you don’t know the God of the wilderness, the god you meet in the comfort may not be the true God.

In this week’s devotional, we will discover essential truths about Jesus discovered nowhere else but in the wilderness.

David writes:
He guides me along the right paths
    for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk
    through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
    for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
    they comfort me.

Psalm 23:3a-4

We have all had seasons of suffering. I have had significant physical health issues as well as mental health issues. I don’t like being weak. I don’t like suffering.

But following Jesus doesn’t exempt us from struggle, does it?

Jesus himself spent time in the wilderness at the beginning of His ministry career and experienced significant struggle.

We are going to look at that this week. We will be spending the week in Luke 3 and 4. Please share with your friends and subscribe here.
