What’s Your Reputation?

Theme of the Week: Success As A Christian Man

Bible Verse: “An overseer, therefore, must be above reproach … Furthermore, he must have a good reputation among outsiders, so that he does not fall into disgrace and the devil’s trap.” 1 Timothy 3:2, 7

Scripture Reading: 1 Timothy 3:1-7

There are a few men I deeply respect. They’re not perfect, and they don’t pretend to be. They are men of character.

On the other hand, I also know some men of questionable character. I’m not surprised when I hear about their bad behavior because it fits their pattern. You know a tree by its fruit.

According to Paul, a godly man is known by others as honorable. Others should be able to look at our lives and see that we’re the real deal. Of course, it will soon be clear that we’re not perfect. But instead of running and hiding, or worse, justifying our mistakes, they’ll see that we own them. We admit to them and turn to God’s grace, and we continue to grow.

That’s what character does. We should aim to be men who are honest about our weaknesses. We’re faithful when others are looking and when they aren’t. And we model integrity in their lives. We have no secrets, no cover-ups, and no huge gaps between how we present ourselves and who we really are.

What do others see when they look at your life? True success means that because we’re being transformed by God’s grace, we are people with good reputations—others observe God’s ongoing work in our lives.

Pray that God grows your character so that others can see His work in your life.

Prayer: God, I do want to be considered honorable. I want others to have a good opinion of me. Help me see areas in my life that need growth so that others see me well, and more importantly, so that they see you well.

Reflection: Identify one area of your life that needs growth. Spend time in prayer asking God to show you how to work on that area and for the Spirit’s help to grow.
