Theme of the Week: Why Did God Create Me?
Bible Verse: “Truly no man can ransom another, or give to God the price of his life, for the ransom of their life is costly and can never suffice.” Psalm 49:7-8, ESV
Scripture Reading: Philippians 1:19-30
Having been created in the image of the eternal God, you are not just precious in his eyes, you are sacred. Your life has value and purpose way beyond the plans you’ve ever made for yourself and the opportunities that have caught your attention so far.
Moreover, there is absolutely nothing you could give God in exchange for your life, as it is so costly that only Christ could afford it… with his own life. Your true worth has nothing to do with your yearly income, what’s on your resume, or the skills a potential employer is willing to pay you for. Whatever your imagination can come up with, you’re worth more!
The sacredness of something speaks of its unique character, and the central notion attached to it is that of holiness. This means that you were created and set apart by and for the glory of the Holy God. It’s not your name that makes you special nor the way you feel about yourself. But it’s Who made you and why!
Sin has made it impossible for any human being to live up to the standard of our Creator, but through Jesus’ sacrifice and the Holy Spirit’s intervention, we have new hope! We can live to a standard that is higher than the world’s. That being said, you do have free will to choose whether you will be God’s or not, serve him or not, or walk in a manner worthy of your vocation or not.
But one thing is certain: You are too valuable and sacred to be diverted from your purpose… and ultimately waste your life.
