Theme of the Week: Living in Light of the Resurrection
Bible Verse: “And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment.” Philippians 1:9
The resurrection of Jesus is the one most significant events in the history of the universe. This week we have looked at the implications of this important event for our everyday life.
In both the good moments and the tough ones, the truth and love of Christ shed the light that we need to properly understand the following:
Our Identity: Because Jesus lives, we have a new identity, and our lives not only find meaning and worth in Him but also a second chance – a new beginning. Consider what Paul tells the Corinthians:
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” 2 Corinthians 5:17
Our Ambitions: Jesus brings us perspective. Jesus introduces the kingdom of God which becomes the standard for everything we think, love, and do. Jesus promises that when we seek His kingdom, everything else that we need will be given to us:
“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Matthew 6:33
Our Past, Present and Future: Because God loved us before the foundation of the world, His love for us is not based on what we have done or will do. The resurrection is the guarantee God not only welcomes us today but will literally receive us in His presence.
“Even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him.” Ephesians 1:4
Our Distractions: As we are bombarded by all sorts of information from all sides, it’s easy to lose track of life. Jesus is the focus we need to keep our goals in line with God’s goals, so we can rejoice today in what will take place on that final day.
“And they sang a new song, saying, worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation.” Revelation 5:9
Our Own Story: We all have a story. We all long to make sense of it and understand our role in it. The resurrection of Jesus is the hope that in Him our lives will count and are part of something greater than ourselves.
“And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” Philippians 1:6
